Long Term Planning Tools Task Force
The Technical Advisory Subcommittee formed the Task Force to evaluate alternative tools that could analyze long-term (i.e. beyond 10 years) transmission expansion planning scenarios more efficiently than production cost simulation tools. Studying long-term scenarios, and acquiring new tools to perform those studies, will be important components of WECC’s upcoming proposal to DOE to produce transmission plans for the Western Interconnection in accordance with the America Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
WECC has released a Request for Proposals and the Task Force has reviewed responses and recommended successful contractors. WECC is working through the communication and contracting process to procure a Study Case Development Tool (SCDT) and a Network Expansion Tool (NXT) to develop and analyze long-term study cases and technically feasible network expansions.
